We are actively seeking enthusiastic and committed board members who share our passion for the arts, our dedication to preserving an important piece of our city's history, and our vision for community building. We are looking for people with diverse skills and perspectives who want to help transform our historic building into a vibrant hub of culture and connection and play a pivotal role in steering us into the future.

Duties & Expectations

The primary duty of the Board of Directors (“the Board”) is to ensure The Bridge at 211 fulfills its mission. The Board is the governing body that oversees the activities, reviews and approves decisions, and drives the overall strategy of the organization. The members of the Board are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the organization has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Board members are expected to...

  • Serve a two-year term

  • Attend monthly virtual board meetings as well as other special meetings and events

  • Review materials, agendas, and minutes provided in advance of board meetings to be prepared for group discussion

  • Serve on at least one standing committee and actively participate in its purpose and activities, including attendance at monthly committee meetings

  • Become familiar with the history of the organization and its bylaws

  • Review and approve the organization's annual budget presented by the Finance Committee

  • Assist with fundraising efforts

  • Serve as a public ambassador for The Bridge at 211 and help widen awareness by actively promoting its mission, sharing its successes openly, and helping to garner resources

  • Occasionally attend community meetings on behalf of the organization

  • Make an annual charitable gift to The Bridge at 211 of at least a nominal amount

Governance Committee

  • Recruits board members with expertise to match knowledge and skills gaps on the board

  • Assists with orientation of new board members

  • Performs and encourages goal-oriented self-assessment by board members

  • Ensures compliance with respect to conflict of interest, nondiscrimination, and all legal and regulatory requirements


Finance Committee

  • Oversees organization’s financial management and drafts annual budgets

  • Tracks monthly income and expenses

  • Ensures financial controls are adequate

  • Supports audit and outside auditors

  • Provides updates to the board along with financial reporting

  • Oversees the annual audit conducted by an external CPA

  • Oversees the management of the endowment


Communications Committee

  • Develops organization's overall marketing/communications strategy Handles all matters relating to communicating with donors, partners, stakeholders, and others

  • Oversees newsletters, official communications, social media platforms, online presence, and contact with the media

Development Committee

  • Oversees fundraising, events, and grant writing

  • Sets fundraising goals

  • With Executive Committee, brainstorms plans for institutional fundraising

  • Assists with individual solicitations and stewardship


Human Resources Committee

  • Oversees staff personnel management

  • Drafts personnel handbook and keeps it up to date and in compliance with relevant law and authority

  • Seeks to ensure each employee is evaluated and exit interviews are performed, with relevant information recorded

  • Sets the compensation package and holds staff accountable for meeting established goals


Facilities Committee

  • Directs efforts to maintain and improve building facilities as voted on by the Board

  • Oversees any renovation and expansion plans

  • Negotiates lease changes

  • Helps secure financing to fund improvements
